DRAMA

The Performing Arts not only enrich personal and spiritual growth, but they have been shown to link with intellectual development and physical co-ordination as well.

Drama is recognized as a means of allowing each student to explore, understand and effectively communicate ideas, feelings and values. Drama assists young people to become more confident presenters and public speakers.

Students at the Clarence Valley Anglican School study Drama in Stage 4 (Years 7 and 8) then may elect Drama in Stage 5 and 6. Such topics of study include Mime, Mask and Movement, Improvisation and Theatresports, Documentary Drama or Living Newspaper, Performance Poetry, Script Interpretation or Page to Stage, Clowning, Theatre Design and Theatre Styles.

Performance Evenings are a regular part of our school’s cultural profile and provide an opportunity for the students to showcase their talents to family and friends. Stage 5 Drama presents a major production every second year and Year 8 Drama students now perform at a One-Act Play Evening.

A lunchtime Drama club is held where students may choose to work on a duologue to enter in the Grafton Drama Eisteddfod, or participate in Theatresports workshops.

An Inter-house Theatresports Competition is held at the Spring Fair each year.

Excursions are run to the “Dramaworks” show in Lismore each year and HSC students travel to Sydney to view live productions of the plays they are studying. Year 11 students attend the North Coast regional Drama Camp in November.

 MUSIC

To ensure that students have the best opportunities to develop and utilize their musical talents in this highly specialized area, CVAS Music Department runs several programs in addition to the Academic Music Program within the regular curriculum.

Instrumental Lesson Program

Individual instrumental lessons are available on campus during the school day, in violin, viola, piano, flute, ‘cello, guitar and reeds.

Ensemble Program

Clarenza Singers (Choir), Clarenza Jazz and CVAS Chamber Ensemble rehearse each week throughout the school year.

Performance Practice Program

Music Concerts are presented at Clarenza Campus every Term. At these Concerts, the School Ensembles perform, and opportunities are given to soloists and small groups to present suitably prepared items in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere. Other performance opportunities also arise at school functions, Chapel services, assemblies, awards ceremonies, eisteddfods and theatrical events.
