Clarence Valley Anglican School | Grafton New South Wales

Sport

The School participates in a number of local competitions. Many sports are supported by the local newspaper – The Daily Examiner - which sponsors these competitions and provides publicity for the local Schools and participants. There are also other North Coast regional sporting competitions that exist such as Indoor Cricket, Touch Football, Rugby and Soccer.

CVAS is a member of the North Coast Sports Association (NCSA) which organises sporting carnivals in Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics. This allows students to represent their School and also provides an opportunity for further selection in representative teams in the Combined Independent Schools Association at State level.

The NCSA also organises competitions for the member Schools in Netball, Hockey, Tennis, Surfing, Rugby and Touch Football.

Junior School Sport

The Junior School offers students a varied and dynamic sports program for all year levels from Prekinder through to Year 6.  Junior School students have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of sporting activities, programs and events throughout the year.

Each morning at the Junior School begins with Morning Fitness and Fruito.  This is a chance for students to energise themselves for the active day ahead.

 Weekly Sport

K-2 Sport develops sporting skills through drills and ball skills, which lead to the playing of modified summer and winter sports.  This age group also holds their own Fun Runs, Swimming Carnival and Athletics Days, with the inclusion of Prekinder.

Students in Year 3 through to Year 6 participate in Winter and Summer sports throughout the year. They have the opportunity to choose from sports including:

Netball, Hockey, Rugby, Touch football, Cricket, Basketball, Squash, T-ball, Volleyball, Dance & Aerobics and Tennis.  They also engaged in activities such as: Jump Rope for Heart, Gymnastics and the SMASH Program (Multi-Skills program) as part of our PE focus.

All students in Years 2-6 participate in the whole school Swimming Carnival, Cross Country and Athletics Carnival.  From these days students are selected to represent our school at an NCSA level.  Other NCSA representative sports include: Hockey, Netball, Rugby and Tennis.

The Active After School Sports Program has also been adopted at CVAS.  This program which takes place weekly for 1 hour of an afternoon, encourages participation and encourages children to be active.  A variety of activities are offered throughout the year.

 Swimming Program

Living close to the water makes us highly aware of the importance of safety around and in pools, lakes and the ocean.  Due to this all students from Kindergarten through to Year 6 take part in the CVAS Junior School Swimming Program each year.  This program runs on a coloured skills based system and allows students to progress through the levels as their skills improve.  Each year the students receive a certificate showing their development.

 Saturday Sport

At Clarence Valley Anglican School, we have also established competitive Hockey and Netball teams.  These teams train during the week and play in local Saturday competitions throughout the Winter Season.  Students also get the chance to compete against other schools in the area through Milo Cricket Days and Netball/Football Gala Days.  Coaching clinics in a variety of sports also take place throughout the year.
