CVAS Junior School is dedicated to ensuring that each child is nurtured and supported throughout their educational journey from Early Stage One through to Stage Three. Strategic planning and active social liaison between Stages, from Early Stage 1 to Stage 3, ensures active student engagement in all areas of the curriculum. Staff at CVAS will guide and encourage your child to strive to believe in themselves, continue to improve their sense of self and aim to achieve well in all aspects of their life - socially, academically and spiritually. CVAS Junior School is a happy, progressive, Anglican Community committed to the development of the whole child.

CVAS is part of the NSW Literacy and Numeracy Action Plan (Phase 2). This is a cross sectoral initiative designed to improve student outcomes through enhancing capacity of school leaders and their staff. Kindergarten to Year 2 Literacy and Numeracy underpins this process with staff implementing Explicit Direct Instruction throughout their teaching.

This initiative will progress and include all members of teaching staff from K - 6.

The Junior School curriculum follows the key learning areas as set out by the NSW Board of Studies Syllabuses. These include: English; Mathematics; Geography, History, Science and Technology, Creative and Performing Arts and Personal Development, Health and Physical Education.

Students learn a variety of instruments throughout their learning at CVAS. All students participate in the local Eisteddfod with their class groups and at various CVAS Community Events.

Our rigorous class programs are designed to support and extend the holistic learning experience of each student. Our Learning Enrichment Staff work with in collaboration with classroom teachers to provide tailored learning opportunities to support or extend identified students.

CVAS is a member of the North Coast Independent Schools Sports Association (NCIS) which organises sporting carnivals in Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics. This allows students to represent their School at a higher level and this leads to possible further selection in representative teams in the Combined Independent Schools Association at State level.

The NCIS also organises competitions for the member Schools in Netball, Hockey, Tennis, Surfing, Rugby and Touch Football.

CVAS In-School Sport Opportunities

The Junior School offers students a varied and dynamic sports and PE program for all year levels from Kindergarten through to Year 6

K-2 weekly Sport and PE programs support the development of Fundamental Movement Skills. These skills are developed through structured learning opportunities that include individual and modified team sports. Gymnastics is part of our PE programs and is delivered by trained instructors each year.

Kindergarten through to Year 2, with the inclusion of PreKinder, have their own modified Sporting Events throughout the year. These include an Athletics Carnival, Fun Run and House Championships.

Students in Year 3 through to Year 6 have the opportunity to participate in a variety of Winter and Summer sports throughout the year as part of their PE and Sport Program.

All students in Years 3-6 participate in the 3 - 12 Swimming Carnival, Cross Country and Athletics Carnival.

CVAS Swimming Program

As part of our PE and Sport Programs, all students from Kindergarten to Year 6 participate in our weekly CVAS Swimming Program in Term 4. Trained Instructors deliver these sessions to our younger students and also support our staff in working with our older students to deliver skill specific sessions that focus on water awareness, water safety, learn to swim and stroke correction.

Sporting Schools

CVAS is part of Sporting Schools which provides quality programs that offer fun and supportive environments to enhance the sporting opportunities for children. These programs are generally run outside of school hours.

Local Events

CVAS supports our local community in many ways. This is a great way to encourage students to expand their co-curricular activities by representing the school outside of school hours. Some events include - ANZAC Marches, Vietnam March, Jacaranda Parade of Youth, Jacaranda Float procession, local markets, nursing home visits, staff book readings in Shopping World.

All students in the Junior School participate in day trips throughout the school year.  In addition, students in Years 3-6 have the extended opportunity to explore outside the classroom on their annual school camp.  These camps are as follows:

Year 3 – Sea World Trip

Year 4 – Lake Ainsworth Outdoor Education Trip

Year 5 and Year 6 – alternate their culturally based trips to Sydney (odd years) and then Canberra (even years)
